We informed participants that this encampment was not authorized and gave them time to gather their belongings and leave the premises. However, most have chosen to remain. As we worked through the steps, we also engaged in dialogue with representatives of McGill students.</p>

<p>L<i>a version française de ce message suit.</i> </p> <p>Over the past 48 hours, the university leadership has made concerted efforts to engage in open dialogue and reach a mutual resolution with the McGill students involved in the encampment.</p> <p>The situation escalated yesterday afternoon with the arrival of external protesters and a significant increase in the number of tents on campus. In the late afternoon/early evening, the McGill students indicated through their lawyers their refusal to engage in discussion and that they intended to remain on campus indefinitely.</p>
