Alfred GuenkelA McGill fellowship changed his life, and now Alfred Guenkel’s family memorializes him by establishing a new fellowship in his name with a $1M gift to the Faculty of Engineering. |

Ophélie GourgasOphélie Gourgas (1991-2023) graduated with a PhD from the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering at McGill University in 2019. She was passionate about science and research and made significant contributions to understanding the process of cardiovascular calcification and the causes behind a rare form of congenital skeletal deformity. |

Robert WeihmayerRobert Weihmayer (1954-2011) completed his studies in Engineering and Asian Studies at McGill as well as a Master’s in Computer Science at Boston University. In 2022, Sandra Horowitz (BSc’72, MDCM’76) established a generous bursary in the name of her late husband in recognition of his passion for learning. |

Bruce AllanMontreal architect Bruce Allan (1947-2022) remained devoted to McGill throughout his life, teaching students as well as serving on the Faculty Advancement Board. A fellowship he established will support McGill architecture students following in his footsteps.

Tom RoutledgeOnce dubbed the “Anarchist Editor of [student newspaper] Plumber’s Pot” – for his socially progressive political opinions, Tom Routledge (1937-2011) graduated in Mechanical Engineering from McGill in 1966. He began his career in the fledgling systems industry with IBM, eventually applying information technology to industries around the world. |

Michael ZahnMichael Zahn (1962-2013) was born in Winnipeg where he grew up surrounded by extended family. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and then earned his Master’s degree in engineering at McGill in Montreal in 1989. He made his home in Montreal and worked for over twenty years at Canadian Aviation Electronics. |

Shahbaz MavaddatShahbaz Mavaddat (1962-2010) was born in Abadan, Iran. Shahbaz earned his Bachelors of Engineering in Civil Engineering in 1982, and his MEng in Civil Engineering in 1985 here at McGill. He worked as a civil engineer for ten years, covering industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects in North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. |

Claudia MacedoClaudia Macedo (1990-2013) was a fourth-year Materials Engineering undergraduate student, whose life was tragically cut short when she was struck by a car while cycling on James Bay Road. Claudia was cherished by her co-workers, colleagues, and friends and will be profoundly missed: she made McGill proud. |

Hugo H. LangshurHugo Langshur was born in Jagerndorf (Krnov), Czechoslovakia on December 15, 1921, and passed away on August 9, 2019. Hugo moved to England in 1938, graduating from the military academy as a second lieutenant in the British Army in 1943, and spent his time during the Second World War as an officer in Africa and Europe theatres. |
