 open access to research and science\, questions the rationale behind the $
 25.2 billion a year that flows into for-profit academic publishers\, exami
 nes the 35-40% profit margin associated with the top academic publisher El
 sevier and looks at how that profit margin is often greater than some of t
 he most profitable tech companies like Apple\, Facebook and Google. \n\nSt

 rofessor and Director of the Learning Sciences graduate program at McGill 
 University. As Director of the Achievement Motivation and EmotionResearch 
 Group (www.ame1.net)\, Dr. Hall's research explores the roles of motivatio
 n and emotion regulation in psychological and physical health in education
 al settings (e.g.\, undergraduates\, graduate students\, K-12 teachers\, f
 aculty). Dr. Hall is also known for his social media efforts both personal
 ly (e.g.\, @AcademicsSay) and as Vice-President of Communications for the 
 McGill Association of University Teachers (MAUT) utilizing humour and stra
 tegic engagement to advocate online for well-being and equity issues in ac
 ademic employment.\n\nVincent Larivière holds the Canada Research Chair on
  the Transformations of Scholarly Communication at the Université de Montr
 éal\, where he is associate professor of information science. He is also s
 cientific director of the Érudit journal platform\, associate scientific d
 irector of the Observatoire des sciences et des technologies (OST) and reg
 ular member of the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche sur la science e

  Schmitt a professor at Clarkson University in Potsdam\, NY as well as a f
 ilmmaker and journalist. Schmitt has written about open access to research
 \, higher education future trends\, and new technology altering global lea
 rning in publications such asForbes\,Huffington Post\,SlateandEdSurge. Sch
 mitt was a field producer and interviewer for the 2012 documentary 'Louder
  Than Love: The Grande Ballroom Story' about a small music venue in Detroi
 t that altered rock and roll music. The film won an Emmy in 2016 amongst c
 ountless other film festival awards.\n
