Educational Objectives:

1. The pandemic of obesity is associated with many non-communicable diseases of which the most recent are the inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)
2. Western Diet is thought to be prominent in maintaining global obesity and the role of diet in promoting IBD has been more and more recognized in the last decade
3. The four main features of western diets promoting systemic inflammation and hence breakdown of the intestinal barrier are discussed and the aspects tying Crohn’s disease to obesity is highlighted.
