Focused ultrasound surgery is a form of surgery for the treatment of tremor. In 2021, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved focused ultrasound (FUS) surgery in the United States for the treatment of tremor in Parkinson's disease. In Canada, the Canadian Foundation for Innovation funds three centers equipped with specialized equipment located in three provinces, including Quebec, Ontario and Alberta.

In Quebec, focused ultrasound neurosurgery is practiced by a team formed by Dr. Michel Panisset, neurologist, and Dr. Abbas Sadikot, neurosurgeon, both affiliated with the Andrée Barbeau movement disorders clinic at the CHUM and the Montreal neurological Institute-hospital.
