What does risk-taking mean to performers from different fields? Are risks beneficial or detrimental to the act of performing? And how can we develop risk-friendly training environments that foster both creativity and sound decision-making? Prof. Aaron Williamon and his guests will discuss what risk-taking entails for performers in music, circus and medicine, and what can be shared between these fields. Lunch boxes will be provided.

Moderator:

  • Prof. Aaron Williamon, Director, Centre for Performance Science, Royal College of Music, and Dean’s Chair in Performance Science, Schulich School of Music

Guests:

  • Dr. Rolando Del Maestro, Director, Neurosurgical Simulation and Artificial Intelligence Learning Centre
  • Dr. Véronique Richard, Applied consultant and researcher in sport sciences, University of Queensland, Australia, and the National Circus School, Quebec
  • Professor Jean-Michel Pilc, Pianist, composer and improviser
